Example Story - GCSE English Language (AQA Paper 1 Creative Writing)

(0)
This is an example piece of creative writing for GCSE. It is a story such as those found in AQA GCSE English Language Paper 1, but it easily applies to all exam boards. It was written in response to the prompt “Write a story about uncovering a long-kept family secret” in the allocated 45 minutes. It does not have an exact mark but would be in the top band as it as a sophisticated, fluent and original piece of writing. The document also contains bullet-points which display the process of planning the story, and comments on devices and strategies used during writing. The story displays an imaginative setting and plot, lots of figurative devices (simile, metaphor, personification, alliteration), and a variety of sentence structures, sentence starters and punctuation. This was written by myself to show the pupils I tutor, and I received an A* in English Language GCSE.
